Legal/insurance necropsy includes proper documentation of animal identity, and may include collection and freezing of tissues and stomach contents when deemed appropriate, photographs of lesions when appropriate, chain of custody records, and communication with insurance companies, attorneys, and other legal authorities. Animals submitted with suspicion of malicious poisoning will be charged this fee. Toxicology is not included and will be submitted to a referral lab only with prior payment by the submitter. If the pathologist is required at a later time to communicate with attorneys, legal authorities or insurance companies on an animal submitted for a routine necropsy, the submitter will be responsible for the higher necropsy charge. |
